a sweet quilt

sweet quilt
This is a little quilt that I designed for the Moda Bakeshop.

It measures 45" x 54". I consider that a baby quilt, but it could also be used for a lap quilt.

I like the busy prints all crammed together. And the tumbler shapes make it look complex, but it really is easy peasy. Just the way I like it. :)

The tutorial is here.

Wow!! Love the quilt. Actually I discovered your blog through the bake shop some time ago and boy am I glad I did. I want to make so many of your quilts. I love that you are down to earth and not a quilt snob...Keep up the great work...

I caught a peek at this one over at the Bake shop and immediately thought, I can make this! You made it seem very easy. I'll send you a pic if I go ahead and make it. Maybe for one of the Baby quilts I need to make for this month.

It still amuses me to see the same fabrics pop up all over the world... I just recently bought some of those in a small shop in Norfolk, England. I loved the one with the birds in outline and have been wondering what to make (probably a quilt for the cat!)

Love the polka dot binding! I've been thinking of doing a coin quilt, do you think this pattern would work if every other 'row' was a solid?

The quilt is on my list!

I left you a comment at mbs too - such a cute quilt! I love the tumblers and charms are a great way to get them easily :)

wendy,

i think that would be a fun look, too! i think you should give it a shot. maybe you could make the solid rows just a touch narrower than the pieced block rows? just a thought...

I love this quilt--I am a beginner, but this looks very managable. I have made several quilt tops, but I have not sandwiched them or quilted them yet (this seems a little scary to me). I like how you just outlined each patch--do you sew around one and cut the thread and then start on the next one? What would be the best way for me to start quilting my quilts? Thanks--I'm kinda learning by myself and reading peoples blogs.

Super darling quilt, Amandajean!!! Maybe you should have a sew-along with this cutie?? Just think of all the different fabrics that could be used. It'd make a great Christmas throw too.

Don't the reds in this quilt just make it "pop"?! Even though we might like to attempt something more complicated now and then, it's nice to know that a simple quilt can be so attractive.

Beautiful. I love the colors; I'm in the midst of a turquoise/red quilt for my daughter. I love your red polka-dot binding; may have to borrow that for mine. :-)

I didn't even notice the shapes until you mentioned them. I first thought it was a simple charm quilt. Nice change!

Oooo, I'm going to have to check your pattern out! I just finished making a Zig Zag quilt (ok, just the top) using your free tutorial and LOVED the way it turned out. It's on my blog if you want to take a peak. =)

Saw the tutorial this morning on MBS, and I love it! May have to get a few more charm packs of Hushabye and do this one for my friend's baby girl... Or maybe throw in some solids to stretch the dollar... Thanks for the tutorial!

I love your site and your quilts - such an inspiration to me as I am on a tight budget of $500 a year for fabric, thread and batting, scissors, mats, cutter and patterns. That is about $42 a month to spend. Learning about bleach muslin has really helped with the budget. Your tutorials are just great. Thanks Amandajean.

This is just about the sweetest (no pun intended hehe!) little quilt around! Can't wait to make it!! Thanks Amandajean!

Oh blast - just realised I am one charm pack short... do you think it could be made out of 3 charm packs?? Just in case I can't manage to find another one online?? Any suggestions??

I've always wanted to do a tumbler block quilt, but felt like it would be too tedious with a template---you've shown me how easy it can be! Thank-you!

It is fabulous. Very colourful and you know I love colour!
What is the back like? I am always having a hard time picking out the backs for quilts. And so many people fail to show the backs which makes a quilt what it is.

It's GORGEOUS CrazyMom! I LOVE it!!!

Love this line of fabric. Great little quilt too :)

Rebecca said...

Oh- I really like this!! I am going to have to pick up some charm packs!

Hi Amanda Jean,

Love this quilt and I tried to print the tutorial. It would only print 3 pages which included the photo of the quilt, and the photo where you cut the template from the charm pack cardboard, and nothing else. Do you know of a way to print the whole tutorial?

You have a great website :)

Clair said...

I like it...and think I may try that pattern sometime.

Astyn said...

So I just found your site and I love it. I am sure to be coming here often for new ideas and help learning how to quilt. I hope to be as good as you someday!
Hooray for stay at home moms!

I didn't see that that was you! I moved that quilt to the top of my to do list after I saw it on MB. I think I'm going to use the Happy Camper line from American Jane. Thanks for all the continued inspiration!
