sewing Saturday

Last Saturday Heather and I headed up a sew day at our church. We both have the desire to make quilts to help others in need. There are so many people going through dire situations that could use a quilt. So, the Wednesday before the scheduled sewing day we got together and pooled a bunch of our fabric. We had a massive round of fabric with friends (yay!!!) and pulled these stacks for potential quilts. It was so. much. fun!

On Saturday we ironed, cut, sewed, pressed, and sewed some more. The 6 of us that got together made lots of progress! As far as patterns go, we kept things nice and simple.
Baby bricks.
And good old patchwork. (These rows still need to be sewn together. That's today's project.)

In addition to the quilts shown above, two other quilts were cut out and started. It felt great to get this fabric out into the daylight and to finally use it! Plus, it's always fun to sew with friends. For a good cause? Even better.

I love this pattern. I have a couple of "stacks" that I don't know what to do with. These will be great. And the shapes aren't too small that I lose the fabric print. In the second picture, the rectangles lay horizontally instead of vertically. Did you still use the same size cuts? Thanks!

so right on several fronts: it's fun sewing with friends, fun using up oldies but goodies, and even more fun giving quilts to people who could really use them but aren't expecting them. thanks for the inspiration.

It´s so fun to go together with friends and sew to other people.
My group have sewn to a missionary hospital in Africa since 1997. Small quilts for newborns.
It´s a nice feeling to know that your quilts will help someone!

Johnny and Buck is one of my all time favorite boy lines. Very cute with the red. I just got out my old J & B scraps and finished up a small baby quilt this past week.

How wonderful! The quilt tops are beautiful. I have always lived by the philosophy that 'when you give, you give of your best'. I know that the finished quilts will be loved by their recipients, as they will recognize them not only for their beauty and practicality, but also for the time and love taken to make them.
